I’m thrilled to receive an award at such a big film festival. It’s an honor to have my name on an award with a history as long as the ISCA. I want to remember my ISCA experience as I take my activities in music and film forward.

Matsumoto Toshio Prize

Loved man and hated

Saaya Kaneko

Kyoto City University of Arts

[Award Comment]

I made this film hoping to express my vision in my own way. But perhaps what makes me happiest is that my film, which was inspired by my favorite places and people had this opportunity. And even more, had the special honor of being acknowledged with the very first Toshio Matsumoto Prize. This is my last year of study before I graduate next year. We tend to get trapped by our busy routines and focus only on the immediate future, but I hope to continue doing this work while holding on to my values and broadening my horizons. Thank you so much for everything.

While I’m a little taken aback at having won such a wonderful prize, I’m delighted that our game was well received. If as I imagine there are students at game design schools thinking of submitting their work to ISCA, I would encourage them to take the plunge. If you’re using games as a medium to try something new, people will appreciate it. I would like to use the stimulus from the other winners in my age group and the words of encouragement from the judges as motivation to continue my work.

[Award Comment]

Thank you for this wonderful award. As my participation in ISCA 2016 was the starting point for this present project, if I could say just one thing, it would be that I’m glad I participated. After a year of going nowhere fast, I was determined to come back to do what I couldn’t in 2016, and I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to do that. I want to use the disappointment to do better in the future. I truly thank you for these last two years.
