  • Blog Liguria - Finale Ligure & its outdoors
One of my favorite places in Liguria is Finale Ligure and, strangely enough, I have noticed I had never mentioned it in any of my blogs before…
As well as having beautiful and roomy sandy beaches, the place offers numerous things to visit such as caves to explore, picturesque sites to discover and typical events to attend.
The lush nature surrounding Finale Ligure, combined with the predominantly mild climate, make this area an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
Many are the sports one can practice here ranging from water sports, such as diving and sailing, to peaceful walks on panoramic paths and exciting descents by mountain bike, free climbing, paragliding and more.

Finale’s church and square

Finalborgo is one of the three urban nuclei that form the municipality of Finale Ligure. It once used to be an independent municipality, but then it was merged with Finale Pia and Finale Marina to form today's municipality of Finale Ligure.
It is a beautiful village, among the most beautiful villages in Italy, full of life, clubs and very nice little boutiques selling handmade crafts and local specialties. Walking through its narrow streets is really pleasant and if you want to admire the most beautiful view, you must go up to the top of the entrance to the Archaeological Museum. From up there you can observe the agglomeration of houses and the sea. The climb is quite impervious and demanding, so it is a strenuous hike but it’s worth it.

The amazing thing about this place is that within a few kilometers you can go from wide beaches to wild nature, encountering Roman bridges, villages rich in art and history, a plateau full of caves and covered in Mediterranean vegetation and also most services you need within a city.
In the hinterland there is a plateau full of caves and trails, an intact natural environment which is part of a geological area between Finale and Noli, another cute village on the coast.
It is a small outdoor paradise: all along the bike trails you can find vegetable gardens and vineyards and every year Finale Ligure is confirmed as a Blue Flag for its crystal clear waters.
The Blue Flag recognition is given to places in Italy with the cleanest and clearest waters.

In Finale Ligure there are hundreds of paths available both for cyclists and hikers and among these the Pellegrino one stands out offering breathtaking views of the sea.
One can admire here an ancient mule track surrounded by olive groves and overlooking the bay and the small church of San Lorenzo, a medieval jewel that deserves a small detour from the main route. In a couple of hours of walking you can reach a cave full of stalactites and stalagmites and there is also a Dolmen nearby, a megalithic structure dating back to the Bronze Age.
From here it is not difficult to reach the Pian Marino plateau, with its vast meadow. In this area there is also the small wall, one of the simplest and best equipped for those who want to try climbing for the first time.
The most suitable walls for beginners are found around Monte Cucco, suitable even to families with children, but the area also offers adrenaline-pumping walls for the more experienced climbers.
Finale Ligure and its surrounding area are indeed every climber's dream. There are climbs suitable for beginners who want to try this discipline for the first time as well as panoramic climbs on cliffs overlooking the sea.

This area is great for family-friendly green experiences too: a few kilometers from Finale, in a splendid olive grove, stands a nature park, where you can spend a few hours or whole days in the company of donkeys and horses. The slow trekking to walk together with the donkeys is designed for parents and children of all ages and the most important feature is the tranquility that can be enjoyed in this slow walk, among the scents of the Mediterranean scrub. The park offers a series of fun activities related to these animals such as the donkey experience in which you can brush your donkey and learn more about these peaceful animals.
