Focus on UK

Recently, British-born talents have been particularly active in the film industry, as directors, actors and actresses. For this year's program focusing on UK short film, we will deliver a broad selection of films spanning documentary, animation, drama and other genres. We hope you enjoy these top quality works from the UK. Photographer Jason Bell's directorial debut "Hollywood Portfolio," created for the magazine "Vanity Fair," will be shown as a special screening. This film stars 44 British actors and actresses representing the UK, such as Eddie Redmayne, an Academy Awards® winner this year, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

See the Brits preparing for war, going off to America to infiltrate the film industry, and, finally, assuring victory. ​ This is the first time that "Hollywood Portfolio" for Vanity Fair has created a short film. This is the first time that Vanity Fair has created a short film specially for the Hollywood Portfolio.

      Jason Bell was born in London, receiving his first camera at the age of five. After attending Oxford University, he began a career as a portrait photographer, his work appearing in top publications including Vogue and Vanity Fair. The Recipient of numerous awards, he has also shot film posters and published four books.

After studying Graphic Arts and Design at Leeds Met University she completed the MA Animation Course at Royal College of Art in June 2013. She has had her work broadcast on SkyArts, E4 & the BBC and recently won the Lumen Animate Award.

The Secret World of Foley

We follow a multi-award winning two person team of Foley Artists and watch as they work together to bring to life a film about one morning in the life of a fishing village on the English coast. With their perfectly timed and precisely judged sound effects they transform the film as they interpret every sound detail, using props from their vast props store. This film shines a light on a little known film art form and is a testament to magic and wonder of Cinema itself.
