  This work shows the inside of a room. The room is also a person’s heart, a hidden chamber whose contents cannot be seen from the outside. Such a space can be warm and full of light, or it can also be chaotic and frightening. In such a room the smallest disruption of the daily routine causes a murky darkness to descend.

  During production I made a mistake in developing the film, causing some unexpected light to appear in the image. The sound of the projector echoed in the dark, and for several minutes you could see those many streams of light. That sense of surprise and suspense became the starting point for my film.

  This was my first year living by myself. Soft sunlight and sudden downpours; the love of my family far away; déjà vu of experiences beyond the frontier of memory; and a life so busy every day that everything goes past too fast.   I wanted to create something vainly stylish and sophisticated but also surrealistic and way cool. It’s the converse of the idea that "if it can’t be expressed in language it has no meaning." It develops all at once at breakneck speed, so try not to miss anything.

  I never imagined winning this award, so I was completely shocked. But it has been a great experience. I was very impressed with the other award-winning entries, and I’ve learned a lot from them. They’ve made me feel that my own work is still immature, but at the same time they have inspired me to create something even more interesting.   I thought it would be interesting to introduce an angel of death type of character into a realistic, dense urban landscape. I didn’t use any lighting equipment and tried filming the subjects and their shadows with only ambient light.

  Now a relic of a bygone era, a tablet computer holds the memory of the day that the last digital edition of a newspaper was delivered. In 2014 the idea to grow vegetables on the moon was just a dream. But now vegetables are sent from outer space to the dead planet Earth. And the people who live in outer space read books made of paper and write with lead pencils.

  My film depicted the world of my imagination. After seeing the wonderful work produced by other students my own age from all over Japan, I’m motivated to create something even more interesting. Over the 6 months or so since I graduated I haven’t produced anything at all, but I’m going to take this opportunity to re-commit myself and take up the challenge of sketching and producing videos.

  This video is a performance of music made by feeding “sound bugs” to a hungry chameleon. I wanted to create an app to make it easy and fun to create music. The design is cute so that even children or people not used to music can enjoy it. Its major feature is that you can freely change the musical tones.
