  • Valentine’s Day in Sydney
Sydney is undeniably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. From the bay to the iconic tourist attractions, from the many beaches to the many trails and parks, Sydney has so many fun and exciting activities to offer. Not just for tourists, but also for Sydney locals. And all these amazing attractions also make Sydney the perfect city to start your love story and execute the perfect date, especially around Valentine’s day.

There’s nothing more romantic than watching a movie outdoors with the best view of the city. Every year during the summer months, Sydney puts on a couple of outdoor cinemas where you can enjoy the latest blockbusters or famous classics under a sky full of stars. Maybe not as private as you’d like it to be, but it’s a fun experience and a little more exciting than the usual indoor cinema. One of the most popular open-air cinemas is the one set up at Macquaries Point, overlooking the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Sydney skyline. You can pick your seats (don’t worry, they all have the best views in the city!), grab a bite to eat and a glass of wine as the sun sets over the harbour and the film begins. There is also a very nice option of open-air cinema at Bondi Beach.

Another nice way to celebrate Valentines’s day, which may be a bit of a cliché, is to take a boat tour in the bay. It may seem common but truth is many Sydneysiders have never taken a cruise on our beautiful Sydney Harbour. If you choose the right cruise, at the right time, you can be sure of a very romantic experience. There are many dinner cruises available at different times so why not try it for your next romantic date or Valentine’s Day in Sydney? Or you could even take it a step further and charter your own boat to cruise around the harbour and visit some amazing places that regular cruises don’t go to.

Sydney’s Luna Park is a rare surviving amusement park with stunning 30s Art Deco architecture. Located at the opposite side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the Opera House, it has stunning views of the harbour and the city’s main icons. If you want to feel like a kid again and spend a different day or evening, this could be a different date than usual, especially if you decide to take the ferry to Luna Park.

Sydney is also full of incredible Michelin-starred and non-Michelin-starred restaurants, many with breathtaking views of the water. There’s no more luxurious experience in Sydney than dining at The Quay: it’s impossible to ignore the fact that, housed in the Overseas Passenger Terminal and taking advantage of the corner tower, it boasts one of the prime views in Sydney: from the Harbour Bridge to the Opera House.

What better way to end the day than enjoying a romantic sunset with your loved one? There are so many great places in Sydney to watch a beautiful sunset, so you’ll be spoilt for choice. And why not bring some food for dinner, some nibbles and maybe a bottle of wine to make the experience even better? One of our favourite places in Sydney to watch a sunset is at Robertson Park, with beautiful views of the city. Bondi Beach, further north, is also a great place to watch the sunset on a warm summer’s night. Other great spots include Mrs. Macquarie’s Point and the Royal Botanic Garden in the city.
Sydney and New South Wales have literally hundreds of beaches dotted along the coast, from Byron Bay to Eden. While it can be hard to find a beach that hasn’t been discovered by the rest of the world, there are actually a few beaches in and around Sydney that are great little hideaways. Reef Beach, near Manly, is one of those beaches – it’s small and quiet and the surrounding views are amazing. Another great beach to visit is Whale Beach, next to Palm Beach.

Sydney is home to many beautiful parks scattered around the city and beyond, and some of these parks offer fantastic views. A great way to enjoy the company of your partner is to simply have a romantic picnic outside in the park, even better if it’s with a beautiful view in front of you. Some of the best places to picnic include the Botanic Gardens.
It’s nice to grab a picnic rug, a basket, some food and snacks, and maybe a nice bottle of chilled wine (where allowed), and enjoy a great afternoon out.
Whatever your choice, it will be a great day in Sydney.

Hello everyone! I’m originally from Italy and I moved to Sydney, Australia, in 2012 after getting a job as a civil engineer. I love walking my dog along the beach, surfing and taking photos. I used to have a travel blog because I’m passionate about traveling and I love writing about it too. Sydney is my home base now and I wish to share how amazing it is to live here. I love to spend time outdoors and I’m always well informed about local events because my girlfriend works in event management.
