Founded by the Romans, Manchester made its name during the hectic years of the Industrial Revolution, becoming the most industrialized textile city in the world and one of the most active commercial hubs in the country, also due to its precious proximity to the port of Liverpool.
And just as the Industrial Revolution left its aftermath, the city of Manchester also experienced years of stagnation during the 20th century, years from which it found new impetus and opportunities in many fields, from design to technology.
It is enough indeed to say that the first computer was invented in Manchester, it is here that the atom was split for the first time and it is also here that the first theses on thermodynamics were put forward, the first English public trains left and where, in fact, the first railway in the world was inaugurated.
I have made my homework about Manchester before coming to visit.
Not only Science, but also Design, Culture and Music (just think of Oasis among others), have made this city a record place, which I recommend you visit.
The Whitworth Art Gallery was established as the first Gallery set in a wonderful park, blooming like an orchid in the greenery of the city.
As part of the University of the City of Manchester, this gallery also serves as a scientific and research center and is a real source of pride for the city and one of the attractions of Manchester that you absolutely cannot miss, if you love art like me that said.
There is no doubt that Manchester is a city of science and that the years of the Industrial Revolution have left a burning mark here.
In the Science and Industry Museum, you will find a bit of those years and of the revolutionary history in the field of science of the city.
From the canals of Castlefield you can get to the food hub of Altrincham, a little outside the city, then to Ancoats, a district in constant ferment, destined to become the new hipster hub of Manchester, second in popularity only to the Northern Quarter.
There are lively neighborhoods full of attractions in Manchester, but the Northern Quarter is perhaps the one that best combines, at the moment, the strong sense of novelty and innovation of the city, with an unprejudiced and brilliant artistic sense.

Graffiti, murals, design shops and studios of local creatives, shops and coffee bars, the Northern Quarter has everything for a perfect walk to discover the real Manchester.
Here you will also find Home, an exhibition center, but also a theater, a cinema and a centre dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary art.
A multifunctional centre with rooms where independent films from all over the world are shown, with art galleries and a cafe and a bookshop not to be missed.
In the heart of the city, one of the things to see in Manchester is the Manchester Art Gallery, one of the must-see museums, dedicated to the exhibition of classic and contemporary works, from painting to photography of the greatest international artists.

Last but not least, the Town Hall in Albert Square is located in an imposing Victorian building, whose neo-Gothic architecture fascinates any tourist who visits especially for its beautifully decorated interiors if you visit it inside.
I have run out of space and time to tell you about the food…it is a must try here!
Plenty of gourmet restaurants and foodie lovers eateries can be found here.
