  • Summer in London on the notes of music
London in summer is full of interesting things to do, many of which are free of charge.
London is always beautiful, but its appearance changes with the seasons and its atmosphere is always different.

Summer London is full of outdoor activities, picnics, concerts under the stars, and romantic views along the river.
The Thames, which I like to call the river, is one of the city's highlights in summer.
River life is a special kind of life, which is at its best in summer.
The first thing to do is wait for sunset and then head to one of the spots where the pubs along the river are concentrated, and enjoy a beer sitting on the wall along the path, lazily observing the activities taking place on the water.
Keep in mind that in London, in summer, it's light out until ten o'clock at night, and until then the river is crowded.
I love sitting and watching the rowers training, the boats that transport you to the city center, the sun setting, the thousands of people chatting in front of the pubs, the joggers jogging along the riverside.
My favorite spots are those a little outside the center, a little less touristy, namely Hammersmith and Richmond, one of the city's most romantic neighborhoods.

Every year there's a festival called Totally Thames, with lots of events all related to the Thames.
Along the Regent's Canal, you'll discover a completely different London, very peaceful and quiet, which, despite being close to the city center, maintains a typical countryside atmosphere.
The houseboats are full of life and color, and will surprise you with their creativity.
London is also full of outdoor concerts in the summer.
Concerts in London are always special because the music in London is special.
There's something special about concerts in London because the artists are always excited to play here and the London audiences are truly knowledgeable.
Everyone sings, everyone knows the lyrics, everyone interacts with the artists.

Amongst the largest and most beautiful city parks in the world, Hyde Park is in the top 5 I think and it is also one of London's most beloved green spaces.
And it's not hard to see why: its 150 hectares encompass fountains, picturesque ponds, sculptures, monuments and other curious attractions.
A special address with a long history, Hyde Park is one of London's great superstars. It covers an area of over 140 hectares and is surrounded by some of London's most iconic attractions, including Oxford Street, Harrods, and the Royal Albert Hall.
At the northeastern edge of Hyde Park, where the Tyburn gallows once stood, lies Speaker's Corner, which has become a kind of stage for freedom of expression.
An 1872 law allowed public speeches on any subject here.
Even today, budding orators, lone members of obscure parties, and debaters of all ages, backgrounds, and social classes flock here every Sunday to voice the most diverse ideas and theories, sparking collective hilarity.
In the past, however, great historical figures have also spoken from the pulpit, including Karl Marx, Lenin, George Orwell and Emmeline Pankhurst.

The British Summer Time (BST) festival transforms Hyde Park into a huge open-air stage for about three weeks every summer between June and July.
The biggest international stars in rock and pop music take to the stage.
Over the years, artists such as Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, Lionel Richie, Taylor Swift, and Lana Del Rey have performed there.
Be warned, though, because tickets for the most anticipated concerts sell out quickly.
The British Summer Time Festival event offers four days of activities and summer fun in the heart of Hyde Park.
Taking place in the summer every year and spanning over two weekends in July, Hyde Park comes alive with films, live music, street food, sports and much more.
Demand for open-air movie nights continues to grow in London.
It’s a trendy thing to do over the summer months and Hyde Park hosts evenings of entertainment with giant screens with, on average, two films being shown each evening, one earlier and one later.
The main stage offers free live music in the evenings such as the Gospel Chorus offering a magical evening of spirituality and dance.
During such festival, you must prepare for a feast for the taste buds with the sensational Street Food Market, open from noon onwards where you can explore a wide range of international cuisines.
A selection of pop-up bars offer excellent refreshments, from draft beer to wine and craft cocktails and you can also normally enjoy delicious dishes prepared by authentic Italian vendors.
Radio stations broadcast live from the event, bringing along a selection of musicians, artists and theatre actors from around the world.
Some theatre companies present indeed free performances of their most acclaimed live shows throughout the festival.

This is not the only festival in London in the summer though.
Through the years I have attended some events such as The Community Festival, with exciting artists in one of London's most beloved outdoor venues and the Kendal Calling Festival with hundreds of artists performing.

I moved to London over 2 years ago but only last year I started writing for a local newsletter for Expats in London telling about my experience in this big city and giving advice to newcomers. London is a very dynamic city and has a lot for everyone but it’s important to have a local point of view to navigate it without getting lost. Let me be your guide to hidden London!
