  • From sea to mountain
From the blue sea to the white mountain caps
If you think of Liguria, the first thing you associate with it is the sea but there are actually two ski areas where you can ski, snowboard and enjoy all sorts of snow activities in this beautiful region.
I like the mountain because in all seasons it offers many activities to do.
I have been several times out there for a snowshoe hike in the snow to enjoy the beauty of the whitened landscape and it was actually more of a walk in the snow than a hike but nevertheless it was enjoyable because going from the sea to the mountain with a few hours of driving it’s an amazing privilege.
Those who love skiing can find many slopes in two Ligurian areas and one in an area which is located at the border between Liguria and Piedmont region.
One is the Santo Stefano d’Aveto area, a ski area which can be reached by car in about one hour and a half from Genoa, the second is the Tanaro valley area and the borderline area is Prato Nevoso.

Santo Stefano d'Aveto is located in the province of Genoa, in a valley that in summer offers many hiking trails, and in winter the possibility of practicing winter sports.
From the town of Rocca d'Aveto starts the chairlift that leads to the plateau of Prato della Cipolla, where the refuge is located at an altitude of almost 1500 meters. From here one can take a ski lift used by those who want to make the slopes easier and another chairlift that goes up to Monte Bue, where there is another refreshment point.
In the area there are 4 kilometers of slopes, between easy and medium difficulty, and you can practice both alpine skiing and snowboarding.
Those who love cross-country skiing in the valley will find a dedicated track with a circular route.
On site you can find skis and snowshoes for rent and winter clothing shops, but it is always better to arrive with adequate equipment.
The Tanaro valley, on the other hand, can be reached from Imperia in just over an hour, passing through the hinterland.
The ski resort has been open since the 50s and it is located at an altitude of over 1500 meters.
The slopes here are served by three lifts: a chairlift and two ski lifts.
Going skiing in Tanaro is a pleasure for those who love the mountains, here you descend on a beautiful blanket of snow along uncrowded slopes in an uncontaminated environment.
Tanaro is also a beautiful place to visit in other seasons because it offers picnic areas and nature walks as well as trekking and you can even go rafting in some sections of the streams nearby or horseback riding in the woods of these Ligurian mountains.
Prato Nevoso has an offer that has nothing to envy to the slopes of the most famous resorts in the Alps and, from Liguria, you can also arrive directly by coach bus.
There are possibility of excursions, with walks or trekking along the paths of the mountains that connect Piedmont with Liguria.
For the more sporty and adventurous people I point out that in the area you can go rafting, whereas for those who want tranquility during the summer, they can play golf or go horseback riding.
The ski resort area organized concerts “on the peak” of the mountain where the DJs arrive by helicopter to entertain the skiers.
This is the ski resort to go to for families to because there are many playground areas, a ski school dedicated to children and many kids-friendly events are often organized here throughout the year.
