In America, more and more parents are deciding to choose homeschooling, a valid alternative to the traditional school system, but what is it?
Homeschooling or parental education was a pretty new concept to me as in Italy it is not allowed unless there are particular conditions that require it.
Homeschooling or parental education refers to a form of education that takes place outside the walls of the school, which means that parents take responsibility for their children's education. It is a constantly growing phenomenon and it is estimated that there are about 1.5 million children educated at home in the US.
The main reasons that lead a parent to choose the path of homeschooling are generally four:
- The parent perceives that the school system is too rigid and not suited to the needs of his child, whether physical or psychological.
- The student has had bad experiences and has somehow been disappointed by the school.
- The student lives in a very remote area where it would be difficult to attend lessons in person.
- The parents have strong religious or ethical values and would like to educate their children accordingly.

Homeschooling is a completely legal form of education, as there is an obligation of education, not school attendance.
At times it becomes hard for parents to cover this role completely so they request the help of some tutors, especially for subjects for which parents lack adequate preparation. Technology in this sense has helped a lot the kids who are preparing to take this path, it is not necessary for the tutor to be present, the lessons can also be done online, in a simple and clear way.
I have asked a friend who has made this choice to answer some questions.

You can use different learning methods. The school method does not necessarily have to be the only way of studying, some others favor a practical type of learning. Studying does not have to be boring, but with the right means you can also have fun.
Homeschooling offers the possibility of better understanding the child's true interests and allow him to explore them methodically and frequently, without remaining locked into established schemes. If he is particularly gifted for music or programming, he will therefore be able to dedicate his time to these areas not yet fully supported by traditional school.”
