unburnable

Musashino Art University

Konomi Ishii

Performance with musical instruments made from waste materials. When I touch the metal, it makes different electronic sounds or sounds recorded in the field. 'Our movements'—such as being alive, creating heartbeats, breathing, and moving—are 'acts of sound creation'. And just as I pick out trash to assemble instruments, I pick out the sounds in my environment, including myself, and live with them.

The Traveler's Poem

Musashino Art University Graduate School

CHEN RANXIN

This installation combines a sensitive plant, an Arduino, a tilt sensor, and a sound generation system to visualize the plant's responses and changes in the external environment, which are then expressed as sound. When the visitor touches the sensitive plant, the reaction of its leaves is converted into sound, and the plant's movement and response to its environment are expressed in sound. The sound symbolizes the plant's 'inner voice' and conveys its response to external stimuli acoustically.

Kenshiro Taira

This work is a sound installation generated from the beating of jellyfish. The sound is created through the image analysis of the beating of multiple jellyfish that exist independently, and the work as a whole functions as a single music-generating system. Although the individual jellyfish do not understand the music and are not aware of each other's existence, the activities of the multiple individuals are synthesized and thus perceived as their own music by the audience. Through these perceptions, the organic physicality of life and its potential interactions are presented.

KNITTING a Certain
re-echo-llecion

Keio University

YUSUKE KIKUTA
Kikuta Yusuke

Environmental sounds from running trains or construction sites are collected and visualized in real time. The sounds are 'swapped' into the image plane by means of a fast Fourier transform, and then output as knits from the image plane. Through this work, the artist reaffirms her own resentment towards something that has been replaced by the symptom of auditory hypersensitivity. This installation exists at the intersection of the fashion and textile domains and contemporary media art.
