ACIC x CEA: CEA Global OTOP: Genius Loci Goes Global

After COVID-19, it has become clear that the old way of doing business is not sustainable. Thailand’s OTOP (One Tambon (meaning sub-district) One Product) sector, in particular, is in need of a fresh approach. In light of this, the Creative Economy Agency (Public Organization), or CEA, has launched CEA Global OTOP from 2021 to 2022. The project’s objective is to utilize the "genius loci", that is, using a community’s diverse assets and charms, such as its way of life, culture, and customs as well as its arts, music, and tourism attractions, to create something new that propels sustainable community development on a global scale.

CEA Global OTOP aims to reinvent the concept of OTOP products by discovering the "core essence" that represents a place’s distinctive identity. Teams are formed to turn "initiatives" into concrete "prototype projects" with the help of an expert team ready to lead the OTOP market into the future. CEA Global OTOP made history this year by providing the first NFTs in the OTOP business under the name "CEAGlobalOTOP" free of charge on OpenSea. Additionally, products are showcased on the CEA’s Global OTOP Metaverse platform, opening up new channels for trading goods and services as well as opportunities to connect products to specific geographic areas in order to increase their reputation, competitiveness, and recognition around the world.
