  • Brazilian Colors
The soccer World Cup kicks off on November 20th, 2022, so in Brazil they have launched what they call “figurinhas da Copa,” sticker collection albums featuring profiles of the teams appearing in the World Cup, the schedule, matches, and so on. Brazilians love their soccer and buy the same uniform as the Brazilian team (there are 2 official Brazilian team uniforms, one yellow the other blue), or wear either yellow or green clothes to support the team at matches.

The reason for wearing yellow and green clothes is probably that they are the colors of the Brazilian flag. Put simply, the Brazilian national flag is green, yellow, blue, and white, and features the words “Ordem e Progresso” (“order and progress”). It is called the “Auriverde” (gold and green flag). The green of the Brazilian flag is a representation of the House of Braganza of Pedro I, the Emperor of Brazil and the yellow is a representation of the Empress’ House of Habsburg. However, people generally say the green represents the forests, the yellow represents the mineral and gold resources, the blue represents the sky and rivers, and the white represents peace. The 27 stars represent the 26 states and the 1 federal district.
It is no wonder that they say the green represents forest because 60% of the Amazon tropical rainforest is in Brazil. You could say the image of Brazil is a country with a rich natural environment and a tropical climate. Yes, it is fitting to describe Brazil’s colors as green and yellow. They are perfect for the bright and cheerful Brazilians.

You can find a lot of merchandise in São Paulo that depicts nature, with many items featuring colorful bird or flower designs. When you walk around the shopping centers, you see beautiful designs in the show windows of the shops, so before you know it, you end up going in. The shop in the photo (above) sells soaps, hand creams, essential oils, and so on. Just looking at the designs on the goods feels as though you are smelling them. They make good souvenirs of Brazil.

Using distinct colors like green, yellow, and orange gives a tropical feel. There are shops with lots of goods that are lovely to look at. The typical pattern is a lovely bird. There is a bird with a large beak called the “tucano” (toucan) and the color of its beak is sometimes orange and sometimes yellow. It’s such a lovely bird to look at, everyone likes it.
It features in designs for works of art and handbags.

And recently I spotted some flip-flops with a toucan design.

Brazil is a cocoa producer ranking 7th in the world according to 2021 production data. A chocolate store that opened a few years ago has been putting emphasis on promoting the attractions of Brazilian cocoa, and its chocolate products containing Brazilian nuts and dried fruits are also popular. This is a very stylish shop with tropical style decor inside and tropical designs on their wrapping papers.

Black and white is serene and elegant. But isn’t it more exciting to see these goods with their distinct colors in natural patterns like this? Why not try collecting, starting with small works of art? I really hope you try Brazilian colors.
