Peruvian Ceviche: Like Swallowing the Sea
When it comes to Peruvian seafood, the first dish that comes to mind is, without question, ceviche. it’s a simple dish made with fresh fish combined with red onions, chili peppers, and coriander, which finishes with a sharp bite of lemon. But when you actually taste it, you’ll be caught off guard, thinking to yourself, “What is this…? It’s so good!” The acidity, the heat, the umami of the fish, and the crisp bite of the onion. Everything comes rushing in at once, then you’re spooning up bite after bite, and before you know, it has disappeared from your plate.

The World's Best Breakfast? Peru's "Pan con Chicharrón"
There is a very well-known sandwich in Peru that has even been called "the world's best breakfast."
It’s “pan con chicharrón.” The literal translation is "bread with chicharrón (fried pork with skin on)." Although the name is simple, it has rich, complex flavors and is the go-to thing to eat in the morning, a substantial breakfast that Peruvians have long loved.

I've Been Eating Prickly Pear Fruit a Lot since I Came to Peru.
Peru has gotten a lot colder. I still wear short sleeves in the daytime, but if I don’t put on a thick parka or a light coat after the sun goes down, I feel as though I’m going to catch a cold.

I visited the studio of Víctor Delfín, the 96-year-old leading Peruvian sculptor, and met his elementary-school-aged son!
I wonder if it’s just my imagination that once we’re in late September, it starts feeling as though the end of the year is just around the corner. Last week, I was staying in Lima, the Peruvian capital, on JICA business. After a long absence, the capital was exciting and really fun.

The Paracas Museum has been buzzing recently with elementary school students visiting on school excursions!
It's September. The maximum temperature in Paracas today is 17 degrees (C) and the minimum temperature is 13 degrees. It's a bit cold. A man in my neighborhood said that spring has arrived, but it’s still cold and the cherry blossoms aren’t blooming.

Peruvian “Menú Culture” - I Love It!
Today, Sunday the 28th of July, was Peru's Independence Day (a public holiday). Right through the month of July, the Peruvian flag has been hoisted on buildings, and museum staff have worn on their chests ribbons and pin badges in the same colors as the Peruvian flag, called the "Escarapela del Perú (the Cockade of Peru)”.

An Oasis in the Middle of a Vast Desert! Introducing “Huacachina” in the Ica Region, Where I Live!
On Tuesday the 16th of July, the maximum temperature is 21 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is 16. The wind is strong in Paracas, so it feels a little colder than the numbers indicate. Today, I went to work at the museum with my coat on. It's the first time in my life that I'm wearing a coat in mid-July.

It’s March 2024 and I’m free from hay fever, living in Peru, South America. Ever since the age of about 10, March has meant the affliction of hay fever making my eyes itch and my nose run non-stop, so, to put it mildly, Peru is like heaven at this time of the year.
