The theme of this year's film festival is Cinema Carnival ~ Explore Your Emotions ~.
The Rio Olympics will be held this year and Japan is counting down to the landmark year, 2020. As a well-balanced, meaningful short film festival that expresses global diversity, this event will screen approximately 70 films free of charge. They include films that won awards at the SSFF & ASIA 2016 (held at Yokohama/Tokyo from June 2nd to 26th) Official Competition that were selected from around 6,000 films from over 100 countries and regions, a special collection of German animation from the Osaka program, and a program of Taiwanese films from the Future Film Day film festival held in Taiwan.
Talks will be given by invited speakers after each film program featuring guests such as movie directors, artists, and intellectuals. In addition, after the Children's Program, performances such as hula dancing by a dance team are planned.
