  • Bushwalking in the Blue Mountains
Most people know that Australia is a vast country of endless natural beauty. A particularly popular sightseeing area is the Blue Mountains, located just outside Sydney. Just stepping away from the noise and bustle of the city makes you feel like you’re in a different world, surrounded by breathtaking scenery that continues to captivate countless visitors.

The name Blue Mountains comes from the way light reflects off of the fine oil released by the eucalyptus trees, making the mountains appear hazy and blue. I love these mountains too, and visit them several times a year. True to their name, the layers of mountain ranges appear shrouded in a pale blue hue, creating a mystical atmosphere.

There are many must-see highlights in the area, but one of the most famous is a rock formation called the Three Sisters. Featured in Aboriginal legends, the rocks have been shaped by wind and rain over eons of time. You can see these majestic rocks up close from the lookout, making it a well-known spot for tourists to take pictures.

Hiking and bushwalking are also popular in the Blue Mountains. You can experience the majesty of nature—including waterfalls, forests, and wild animals—as you walk along the well-maintained trails. Changing scenery during different seasons is another draw, bringing new discoveries with each visit.

The weather was so beautiful the other day that I decided to head out for a bushwalk. There were several trails to choose from, but since it was my first time, I chose a relatively short one that could be completed in 45 minutes each way. The path was well-maintained, though it did have some ups and downs, including a long stretch of steps carved into the natural landscape. Still, the scenery was gorgeous and I felt my stress melt away as I walked.

As I headed towards my destination, I took breaks here and there at other lookouts, from which you could see beautiful waterfalls as well as the Three Sisters. Eventually I reached the lookout I was aiming for, and was reminded of how wonderful the Blue Mountains are for allowing you to encounter so much beautiful scenery in such a short time.

I chose a shorter route this time, but you can also ride a cableway or scenic railway to get down into the valley below, from which you can enjoy an entirely different perspective on the landscape. The steep descent adds a little thrill that makes this a popular attraction for adults and children alike.

The Blue Mountains offer both grand scenery and countless ways to enjoy it. Their close proximity to Sydney makes them a beloved daytrip for locals and tourists alike. Here, you can truly experience the abundance of nature in Australia up close, making it worth a visit at least once.
