Soil scientist. In the quest for soil that feeds 10 billion people, Fujii travels all over Japan and the world with a shovel, from the permafrost zone in the Canadian arctic to tropical rain forests in Indonesia. He received Suzuki award from Ecological Society of Japan, Encouragement Award by Japanese Society of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, Achievement Award for Young Scientist from the Foundation of Agricultural Sciences of Japan, and Toyama Award. He currently attempts to create artificial soil to compete with artificial intelligence. He is also an author of "Evolution of Soils travelling over five hundred million years" (Yamakei Publisher) and "Soil Final frontier" (Kobunsha Co., Ltd.).
